I hope to finally get started on these weekly Awful Assumptions.  This week I want to begin with some of the thoughts Ive had.  This year being an presidential election year with lots of political overtones I find myself quite fascinated since I am back in the groove of listening to friends and acquaintances opinions.

When I started writing Awful Assumptions in 2000, I said it was time for a change in our county offices and several changes were made.  I am back now finding the same is true again this year.  It is time for a change.  However this time I am not in any political race, I am just going to be an instigator and agitator.  I plan to start asking more questions and putting the answers I get in writing.  There should be several candidates for our local offices that are on the ballot this year.   I think it is time we get some changes started and see if we can make a change for the better.

As I told you before, I am a Republican, but I often vote for a Democrat locally if I feel they are the best person for the job.  I definitely plan to support the national Republican     candidates.  Hopefully they will make Mr. Obama a one term president and save our country from the path it is on, ie more debt, more unemployment, more taxes, etc.  According to one local resident, I am a certified Demo-Republican.  Even though I may vote a split ticket locally, I will still try to support my party.  I think many people here in the county feel that way.

Several people have told me lately that I am now a good old McDonald County boy instead of being an import.  I think I have earned that name as a business owner in the county for over 30 years.  We will survive here in the county better than many in the bigger cities.
